Last summer, something pretty cool happened in the world of soccer. Casey Phair, a new player for Angel City, set a record as the youngest person ever to play in the Women’s World Cup. Imagine that! She was only 16 years and 26 days old when she made her debut for the senior Korean national team.

Now, Casey is a special blend—born in Korea to a Korean mom and an American dad. She didn't think much of the whole record-breaking thing at first. Her journey to the World Cup started with a call-up to the 30-player preliminary roster. But it wasn't until she made the final squad that things got a bit more real.

Colin Bell, the coach, did a great job of keeping it chill. Casey focused on her training and only did one interview before the tournament. It wasn’t until game day that the excitement hit her. Her first match was against Colombia, and it was a bit overwhelming with all those loud fans and a sea of yellow. She even admitted it was kind of scary!

As she played more in the next matches against Morocco and Germany, Casey felt more at ease. Even though her team didn’t do so well in the tournament, finishing last in their group, Casey made a name for herself. Playing against some of the best in the world, who were twice her age, she proved she belonged.

Before the World Cup, Casey had plans to follow the path of many top American players—go to college. But her experience at the World Cup changed her mind. She wanted to keep playing at that high level and keep improving. So, last September, she packed her bags and came to LA to train with Angel City.

The move felt right for Casey. Head Coach Becki Tweed was impressed by her, saying she blended in well with the team and showed determination on and off the field. Even though being 16 in a professional environment can be nerve-wracking, Casey found it comfortable. The players were welcoming, and she felt inspired by them.

Moving to LA wasn’t just about soccer for Casey; it was a family affair. Her dad, mom, and two younger brothers also made the big move. Coach Tweed emphasized the importance of considering the person as well as the player when making such a significant move.

As a player, Casey brings a lot to the table. She's a goal-scoring attacker who knows how to defend too. Coach Tweed is excited about her natural instincts and fearlessness around the goal. Standing at 5’9, Casey's physicality is beyond what you'd expect from a typical 16-year-old.

Off the field, Casey is eager to explore LA. She loves the city and recently visited Koreatown. The vastness of the city surprised her—it took 15 minutes just to get across! Being from a Korean family, having Koreatown nearby is a big plus for her. She's also excited about playing in front of Angel City's awesome fans, especially the Korean ones.

So, that's the story of Casey Phair, the young soccer sensation making waves both on and off the field. We'll be watching her journey with Angel City and cheering her on as she continues to chase her dreams. Go, Casey!
