Riders Secure Charbel Dabire with a One-Year Extension

Defensive tackle Charbel Dabire is set to bring his prowess to the heart of the Saskatchewan Roughriders' defensive line throughout 2024.

In a recent announcement on Friday, the CFL club confirmed the one-year contract extension for the 27-year-old defensive lineman.

Dabire showcased his skills in all 18 games for the Riders in 2023, notching up impressive stats with 13 defensive tackles and two sacks. Standing at six feet one inch and weighing 290 pounds, Dabire, originally from Burkina Faso but a Canadian resident since the age of two, was a fifth-round pick (44th overall) by the team in the 2019 CFL Draft. His contribution to the team includes 55 regular-season games and three playoff appearances, amassing 37 defensive tackles and six sacks.

Before making his mark in the CFL, Dabire spent three seasons at Wagner College in New York, participating in 33 games and accumulating 73 tackles and two sacks.

The contract extension news followed the team's decision to retain running back Frankie Hickson, while parting ways with slotback Jake Wieneke.

As the countdown to the CFL regular season intensifies, kicking off on June 8 against the Edmonton Elks, fans can anticipate Charbel Dabire's continued impact in fortifying the Saskatchewan Roughriders' defensive lineup.
