The Edmonton Oilers made history by winning their 13th game in a row, setting a new record for the longest winning streak by a Canadian NHL team. They secured the milestone with a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday.

Previously, the Oilers had tied the record of 12 straight wins held by the 1967-68 Montreal Canadiens, and they surpassed it with a 4-2 win against the Seattle Kraken just a few days earlier.

Zach Hyman, Ryan McLeod, and Sam Gagner were the goal-scorers for the Oilers, with Stuart Skinner making 26 saves. The team also achieved a franchise record with their ninth consecutive road win.

Reflecting on the achievement, Hyman mentioned, "When you're in the moment, you just go out there and play, but I'm sure it'll be something cool to look back on how we now hold this streak for a Canadian team. We want to keep winning, so we'll see where it goes."

Oilers forward Connor McDavid echoed the sentiment, saying, "Any time you can be the only team to do anything that's positive, that's always exciting. Good for our group."

McDavid also shared his enjoyment of playing on the road, describing it as fun due to the hostile environments. He added, "Feels like you're playing against everybody in the rink, and that's fun for us."

On the Flames' side, MacKenzie Weegar scored their lone goal, and goalie Dan Vladar made 29 saves. Unfortunately for the Flames, it was their second consecutive loss following a four-game winning streak.

Calgary forward Blake Coleman expressed frustration with the team's setbacks, saying, "It's frustrating losing, in general... it doesn't matter the opponent. We continually give ourselves these fantastic chances to push through and go on these runs, and then we regress by two steps. We are reaching a point where these setbacks are no longer possible.."

The game saw McLeod giving the Oilers an early lead in the first period, and Weegar equalized for the Flames in the second period. Gagner then put the Oilers ahead again in the third period, and Hyman sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.

In goal, Skinner continued his impressive performance, winning his 10th straight game and tying Grant Fuhr's 1985-86 franchise record for the longest winning streak. Skinner has consistently allowed two or fewer goals in his last nine starts.

Despite the historic win, McDavid's 12-game point streak came to an end, but the Oilers showcased their depth and determination. The Flames, on the other hand, expressed disappointment at not putting up a stronger fight on their home turf.

In the end, the Edmonton Oilers can bask in the glory of their remarkable achievement as the new record holders for the longest winning streak by a Canadian team in NHL history.
