Young Somerset Cricketer Selected for England Test Team in Series Against India

Somerset's 20-year-old off-spinner, Shoaib Bashir, is now part of the England Test party for their series against India. However, just three years ago, his entire cricketing journey faced uncertainty.

"I come from Woking in Surrey, and my cricket journey began when I was a little kid. I grew up playing at a club called Guildford City. As I got older, I transitioned to playing for Guildford, the main club," Shoaib shared.

"I played age group matches for them until I was about 15, and that's when I started playing in the first team for Guildford. Around the same time, I was also part of the Surrey Academy, but unfortunately, I got released from there when I was 17.

"It was a tough moment for me when I got released from the Surrey Academy at 17. However, I believe that setback fueled more passion and motivation in me to work even harder. You can interpret it in different ways, but when you truly desire something, you give it your all, and that's exactly what I did – I put in 110% effort
